FAQ
Our family will be away for 2 meets because of family vacation, can we still participate in swim team?
Yes, we understand summer is a big time for family vacations! If you know you will be away, please check your availability at the start of the season so the coaches and team can plan for meets. Families will be asked to mark availability for meets and events on SwimTopia so we can ensure to only enter swimmers who will be present -- this is especially important for relays. For example, if you know you are going away 7/23-7/30, please just go ahead and mark you won’t be able to make 7/29 meet.
Do we have to go to away meets?
It may feel like swim team is an individual sport but for summer swimming we earn points as a team. It is strongly encouraged to go to away meets to help the team do it’s best. The number of home meets alternates each season with 3 away meets in 2023. If you are able and available, please try to attend away meets. Swimmers generally have fun at other pools (and snack bars) as well.
My child is 5 years old and can get across the pool but is not a strong swimmer, can he or she participate?
Your child will need to swim across the pool by himself/herself to be a part of the team. This is for safety reasons as the coach will not be able to watch the swimmer solely all the time. Many 5 year olds cannot swim freestyle or backstroke well at the start of the season and the goal is to swim with better technique and have some fun while doing it. The coaches and reps will do our best to ensure a safe season and registration may be limited to do this.
Can my child do just evening practices and still participate?
The short answer is yes. Evening practices run on Tuesday and Thursday from 630-730 with 2 thirty-minute slots. There will be a sign-up so lanes are not overcrowded. We ask that swimmers who have camps or swimmers whose parents are unable to get the swimmer there in the morning (due to work, appts, summer school) attend these evening practices.
Why did my child get disqualified?
It is very common for swimmers to get disqualified especially as they are learning a new stroke. This is a learning experience and coaches will help the kids understand what they can do to improve at the next meet. Please take a look at the Stroke and Turn page for common reasons kids get DQ'd and for links to full rules.
